Clogged Drain In Bathtub: 3 Ways To DIY At Home!

Unclogging a clogged drain in bathtub has to be one of many frustrating tasks to do in your home. Alongside the sink, toilet drain and the garbage disposal, the bathtub drain gets the most use in any home. Its loaded with hair, grease, soap, and hair care products. You will begin to see water back up, smell foul odours emitting from your drain, producing gurgling noises, water draining slowly, and puddles of water settling around your toilet or sink.

1. Clogged Drain In Bathtub: A Cupped Toilet Plunger.

It may sound a bit odd, but the same way a plunger can unclog a toilet it can unclog your bathtub drain. All you will need is a cup plunger and a roll of duck tape.

Cover the overflow drain with duck tape and fill the tub with hot water. Then place the cup plunger over the drain. By using quick and forceful stokes push the plunger down and then pull. Repeat these steps until the water from the bathtub flows freely and smoothly through the drain.

Plungers are one of the most effective ways to fix a clogged drain in bathtub.

2. Baking Soda And Vinegar Down The Drain.

These 2 items will most likely be under your sink or in your kitchens pantry and it will only take you 30 mins to complete. You will need baking soda, vinegar and a screwdriver.

First remove the strainer and the stopper from the bathtub drain. Second, use a paper towel to remove any excess hair, soap or scum from around the strainer and stopper. Then boil a pot of hot water and cautiously poor it down the drain. After you have done that pour 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of white vinegar and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Boil another pot of water, after the mixture has sat for the required time poor the water down the drain once again. Finally test to see if the water is flowing freely down the drain.

3. A Drain Claw.

A drain claw is device that can come in handy when it comes to easily cleaning a clogged drain around the house and in your bathtub drain. You will need paper towels, a drain claw, and a screwdriver.

First remove the stopper and the strainer from the drain. Second wipe away any dirt, hair or scum from around the drain. Then insert the drain claw in the drain and when it is deep enough, the drain claw will hit the drain tap. After, slowly move the drain claw in a back and forth motion. This will allow any hair dirt or grim clogging the drain to attach the drain claw. Then remove the drain claw and clean it off. Finally test to make sure the water is moving freely through the drain.
