For many of us the shower is a soothing and relaxing place to be. You might walk in dirty, sluggish, sad or tired yet somehow you walk out feeling the opposite. The shower is an essential part of our everyday life and it would be truly disappointing if we are not able to complete our daily ritual. So what do we do when we realize that our feet are starting to get submerged on the shower floor? We’ve put together these quick methods to fix a clogged drain in shower.
There are many different things that can cause blockages. One notorious reason is hair shedding, mainly from longer hair. This mixed in with soap and dirt causes the hair to stick along the drain pipes. Over time this accumulations gets worst and worst until you find yourself with a clogged drain in shower. Since the drains in your shower are similar to the drain in your toilet, we can use similar tactics.
First off, let’s take a look at the simplest way to rid a clogged drain in shower. Pour a couple litres of boiling hot water down the drain. Do this slowly as you don’t want to use up the water too quickly. What we want to do is allow the water to break apart the soap and dirt that is holding the hair together. Since we usually don’t shower with boiling water the blockage does not break down effectively. This is a technique that is simple to do and can be done within minutes. By doing this frequently you can avoid clogged drain in shower.
Another method using a standard household product is the plunger. Depending on how badly clogged drain in shower is, run a little bit of water through it. This will help build up pressure when you’re plunging. Once you’ve done that, position the plunger on top of the drain hole and give it 4-6 pumps. This should push down any blockage. Again, run some water to make sure that there is no build up.
One that we really like is using baking soda and vinegar. This does a truly fantastic job breaking down dirt and soap to clear clogged drain in shower. First, put a 1/2-1 cup baking soda down the drain. Wait a little while as it coats the build up and begins to activate. Then, slowly pour down the vinegar. You’ll start to smell and hear the reaction of the two – that means its working! After a couple of minutes run the water and to make sure that it is, indeed, unclogged.
